An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Assistant to join an NHS organisation based in London. 

This will be vital in embedding more consistency and accountability in procurement and commissioning activity across a hospital. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the hospital and wider to review current practice, identify areas to develop and achieve better value for money which we can be re-invested into patient care.

The ability to adapt quickly to the context of the NHS is important – the role will require you to be proactive in engaging with other service areas!

The new Procurement Transformation Programme in place, needs individuals who are strong communicators, with excellent analytical skills, a methodical approach, who strive for ownership, who want to engage with and influence a large array of stakeholders, and make a difference to patient care.

In a procurement assistant role over the course of a 24-month period you will get the opportunity to work in a number of positions within the procurement team including:

• Supply Chain/Material Management
• Strategic Purchasing
• Operational buying
• Data Analytics
• Category Management

You will learn about the fundamentals of procurement and how the wider business works, gain experience of running projects and interacting with different functions in the business to drive success and also have the responsibility of managing a portfolio of your own.
During your time, you will receive core training and will also have the opportunity to start a fully-funded Diploma in Procurement & Supply qualification.

Examples of Key Responsibilities:

• Initially support in large projects
• Preparation of component/service specifications
• Maintain Procurement Databases
• Support new product trials
• Supplier assessments, development, and researching potential
new suppliers
• Work with key team Members to add value / reduce cost
throughout the Supply Chain
• Support the contracting team to provide help to the Trust in its
procurement and commissioning activities
• Undertake the management and further development of the
Trust’s Contract Management system
• Support the development of procedures and systems for the
implementation of best practice contract management across
the Trust. Support effective liaison and communicate with
relevant stakeholders to ensure robust contracts are signed

Example Competencies:

• Have excellent communication and organisation skills
• Understanding of commercial principles
• MS Excel and MS Word (experience of MS Access an
• Able to prioritise workload / requiring the minimum of supervision
• Minimum HNC/Degree
• Self-motivated, able to work both on own initiative and as part of
a team, and able to deliver to deadlines
